Faction: The V’yul
Capital World: Tilitl
Description: Tilitl, or “Place of the holy” in V’yul, is an aquatic world home to the V’yul people. A single day on Tilitl last about 27 hours and a year 435 days. The Planet is orbited by five natural satellites, Zhonda, Goulpon, Ecthizah, Cthaoreg, and Broutler.
The planet’s surface is dominated primarily by flower, shrub, bush, and tree species. The latter of which dominates slightly. These plant-like species however are incredibly hostile to other forms of life, often being either incredibly poisonous or utilizing rudimentary defenses such as thorns. One such dominant species known as Diohbo is infamous for outright bombarding species with dagger like thorns should they try to consume it.
Life underwater however has given birth to a far kinder environment. Home to a healthy variety of corals, plants, and animals it is home to the vast majority of the V'yul population. Despite nearly 90% of the planets surface being dominated by the V'yul's favored environment most of it has gone untouched due to vast natural wastelands that grow no coral and contain no fish. As a result the V'yul population is concentrated near the coasts, what little there is, and have vast underwater highways to connecting each of their great cities. Reclamation efforts to increase the fertility of the planets underwater wastes have begun with recent advancements in technology, however the discovery of ftl travel has temporarily halted this process.

Government System: Theocratic Republic
The V’yul operate under a system of government that focuses on strictly following the beliefs set forth by their religious texts and the priests seen wise enough to interpret them, while also implementing democratic elements into its system of rule. The head of state is referred to as the Ngat or “The Chosen Seer”, a powerful priest elected by the grand council, a group of priests and judges hand picked by the previous Ngat and the Elected Council. The head of government is the Kal, the V’yul term equivalent to President. He is directly elected by the V’yul people and his purposes is to carry out the decrees and decisions of both the Ngat and Elected Council. Officially the Kal is always subservient to the Ngat, however pass Kals have managed to challenge the authority of such powerful priests.
Culture:
The V'yul are an incredibly religious society, with the majority of the population basing their beliefs around the idea of a cosmic energy known as the Z'il. This energy influences both the life of the individual and those around them, with a "positive" Z'il granting protection against evil spirits, good luck, success, etc., and "negative" Z'il doing the exact opposite. The religion itself has several strict codes and laws to guarantee a favorable Z'il, interpreted by the Ngat and his priests.
At the individual level, many of the V'yul are incredibly independent by nature likely originating from their early ancestors being solitary hunters. Though they have built grand cities like any other major civilization, most V'yul are unlikely to interact with each other on a day to day level. Active socialization even being slightly taboo within the society. After early childhood, many V'yul are expected to live and survive on their own and permanent bonds through social activities such as "marriage" are almost entirely unheard of in V'yul society. Strangely enough, most V'yul are self sacrificing for the greater good of society, so long as they themselves can remain solitary within it.
History:
The V'yul have been unified as an interplanetary society for nearly a hundred years, after the three priests congregated and selected the first and ultimate holy seer or the Ngat. Before such a historic event, the planet had been divided into several warring states, split between three major super powers engaging in a series of proxy wars. The division in society being based off the interpretations of several popular holy texts, and the disagreement on who had ultimate authority to interpret them. It wasn't until the three major sects of the religion had agreed to a final peace summit, that such difference were reconciled.
Since then the V'yul have looked towards the future, building several major cities within their planets surface and developing experimental technology to survive on the surface. Twenty years ago, a solution had been found in what are referred to as Yiz'otho or "surface domes". A major step in future space colonization.
Ten years ago, with the arrival of the aliens was the final and most important shift in V'yul society. The discovery of these creatures was both fascinating and terrifying. Initially adapting their technology to operate underwater was an incredibly difficult and nearly impossible challenge, however with their assistance it was made possible. The first FTL space craft designed by the V'yul, a first step towards what they had hoped to be interplanetary dominance.
Military:
The V'yul, understandably, do not officially distinguish between their army and navy, in fact the two are more interconnected in the eyes of the V'yul then any other aspect of society. Known as the Aitali, it is an effective and distinguished force consisting of several million V'yul subservient to the Aital meaning "Grand Commander". With the recent creation of interplanetary military, V'yul society have created a second command position known as V'hog, who while still under command of the Aital, is given significant independence.
It is important to distinguish that unlike most aspects of V'yul society, the military is surprisingly secular. Believed to be necessary to function both competently and efficiently, the Ngat has allowed a reduction of its religious influence and authority over those actively serving within the military to operate at any capacity deemed necessary. Claiming that it is "the sacred duty of the soldier to sacrifice his Z'il to serve for the greater good of the society has a whole and that this sacrifice will be rewarded kindly."
