Welcome, fellow cluster resident, to our Comprehensive Informational Guide on the Survaek Socialist Federation!
-- Your comrades in the Federal Ministry of Education.
Faction: Survaek Socialist Federation (demonym: Survaekom)
Capital World: Integra
A garden world suited for the evolution of carbon-based lifeforms, with an oxygen-rich (but majority nitrogen) atmosphere and a surface comprised of roughly 70% water. Most of the land is divided into two major continents, with one far larger but divided in two by a barrier of mountains and deserts: The smaller continent is known as “The South,” with the larger continent’s two parts referred to as “The North” and “The West.” There also exists a collection of large archipelagoes known as “The East.” The vast majority of the planet’s industry lies on the northern half of the South and the southern half of the North, especially the former. However, centrally-planned development projects have seen industry rise steadily in the equally-populous West as well.
Species:
Oel: Descended from giant moths, the Oel are warm-blooded insects. Their life cycle goes from caterpillar, starting at around 3 feet long but eventually measuring up to 8 by the end of the 11-12 year period, then to a cocoon for a year (usually kept inside a shelter), and finally into a long adulthood that can extend up to seventy years with current technology. Adult Oel have six legs: two “hind” used for locomation, two “fore” used for manipulation, and two “middle” which are adaptable – though still more comfortably used for movement and support than for prolonged manipulation. As such, Oel tend to stand “semi-upright” on four legs with their abdomens flat and vertex diagonal, making their apparent height about 2/3 of their true length. Their exterior is covered in a characteristic “fur,” which can vary widely in color. They breathe, vocalize, and feed through a thick “snout” from which can unfold a proboscis.
There are two sub-species of Oel. The first and most common, known as Ina, are also the larger at 10-12 feet in length (7-9 feet in apparent height when standing on four legs). Ina color range tends towards shades of tan, brown, black, and red. Furthermore, their wings are semi-vestigial, capable of propelling them for only very brief “spurts.” Their origins lie in the landmass that eventually separated into North, South, and West.
The other sub-species is known as Schulz, originating in the East. They are smaller than their cousins, at some 8-10 feet in length (5-7 feet in apparent height). Their defining difference from Ina are their proportionally larger, more powerful wings, capable of sustained flight even when carrying significant weight. In addition, they have distinctly tougher exoskeletons and vibrant colors – usually green or blue. These features, combined, made them feared Sea Raiders and Invaders during “waves” of migration in Antiquity and early feudal times, when they would tend to settle in mountainous regions. However, centuries of integration and interbreeding have much-reduced the presence of a biologically distinct Schulz population in their former migration targets. Culturally, outside of the East, there is almost no distinction at all between those with more Schulz traits and more Ina traits except in the Akriton Republic, where both Schulz traits and Eastern-derived customs are dominant. Likewise, in the East itself, Ina presence is limited and often a vestige of the Age of Capitalist-Imperialism, when the East suffered under colonialism by powers from North, West, and South (to a lesser degree).
Capital Station: Yvor Outpost
Station Location: Orbit of Yvor, a gas giant in the Integra System.
Yvor Outpost was the third mission of the Survaekom Space Program, after sending a satellite into orbit and coordinated landings on Integra’s two moons. The project involved extensive collaboration between experts from the incipient Association of Automous Luyin Districts and the Army, Navy, and Industry Ministries. Development and construction alone took three years, and it was yet another two months before the station was fully operational. Since then, the station has sent shuttles to survey the gas to prospect for useful resources, while also serving as a point of projection for missions deeper into the Integra System and, later, beyond.
Colonies:
Colony: Morov
Description: Morov is a terrestrial planet whose surface is composed of just over 50% water, but this and much of the land is veiled in a thick “ocean” of noxious gas just heavy and dense enough that it sits in this layer without seeping constantly back into the atmosphere above. Mountain ranges and plateaus extending above this layer constitute the livable “continents” of Morov, but even then only those with lakes, rivers, or significant snow are truly viable for colonization.
Colony History: Surveying and settling Morov was the most recent project of the Survaekom Space Program, by then already integrated into the Navy Ministry. Gains in efficiency and experience showed as the first steps were completed with ease. The settlement itself was initially delayed due to concerns over the Toxic Ocean, but was green-lighted after systematic proof for the safety of water resources on the plateau of settlement, dubbed New Survaek. Morov’s only city and capital is New Foedinei. It currently operates outside the system of Autonomous Republics, under special Federal jurisdction.

Military:
Although the Army and Navy are separate Ministries in the Executive Cabinet, their forces are grouped under the same overall banner of Survaek Federation Military (SFM). For although the Navy may have the coveted Space Program, both branches represent an equally valiant service to the cause of Socialism! The standing forces of both are not only Professional, but Proletarian: Both Army and Navy bases serve their local communities, with soldiers of all ranks participating in agricultural and industrial labor while not drilling or attending to necessarily military duties. The SFM also acts, when necessary, for Emergency Relief – Army and Navy aviation, helicopters, and trucks stand ready to deliver labor and supplies wherever they are needed!
Yet, wherever Enemies of the Revolution lie, they best not think Survaekom soldiery any less disciplined and skilled for their connection to the working masses! Nor should they expect anything but overwhelming numbers: In addition to those patriotic volunteers who form the professional core of the military, all citizen-workers spend 3 years in military service, and after fulfilling this duty they continue to drill with their local Commune and District militias. The entire Survaekom People lies ready to rise against any would-be invaders!
That being said, those who operate in the Navy’s People’s Star Flotilla and the Army’s Long-Range-Deployment Corps are entirely career professionals, as these branches require technical expertise and extensive conditioning.
[CLASSIFIED: As regards technology and armament, the entire SFM primarily employs Mass Accelerators, although some missiles are also used. Although railguns were popular in the early development of MA weapons, coilguns have superseded them as room temperature superconductor alloys have entered mass production. From the mighty cannons of the Survaekom Wind to the standard bullpup infantry rifle, coilguns offer unprecedented power as well as reasonable cost-effectiveness.
On the ground, infantry form the bulk of forces. LRDC foot soldiers are equipped with ceramic armor in three pieces (abdomen, vertex/shoulders, and helmet), built-in helmet radios and tactical displays, coil-rifles, detachable super-heating sword-bayonets, and plasma grenades. Supporting coil-cannons from towed guns, self-propelled artillery, and tanks can direct either solid shot, plasma-explosive, or flechette shrapnel rounds into enemy ranks.]

Government System: Socialist Federal Republic
The glorious SSF is a federation of 9 Autonomous Socialist Republics (abbreviated ASRs): Khaitis, Arkhaer, Khjaed, Reyirik, Akir, Messara, Byrnia, New Byrnia, and Dalam. Together these encompass the entire South, the islands between North and South, much of the southern coastal regions of the North, and nearly the entire southern coast of the West. This makes the Survaekom Socialist Federation the largest and most developed state on Integra, as appropriate for the Home of the Revolution.
Each ASR is governed by two bodies. The first, the Trade Union Congress, represents the will of the Workers’ Councils expressed through their National Unions. Representation for each National Union on the TUC is determined by share of economic output as well as population. Most day-to-day matters of governance fall under the purview of the TUCs. The second body, the National Party Congress, represents the most advanced elements of the ASR’s workers, linking the nation to the larger Federation for matters of importance to all of Survaek such as the military, transportation networks, and the implementation of central planning targets. This ensures a healthy balance between democratic self-governance and federal cohesion.
The Federation itself is governed by four bodies. Two are much like the bodies of the ASRs: The Federal Trade Union Congress, which represents multi-republic unions as well as federations of national unions, and the Federal Party Congress, beating heart of the United Survaekom Socialist Party. Together, they determine the direction of Survaek’s economic development, ensuring the Federation moves ever-forward to the security and betterment of its people. The third is the Congress of Nationalities, a 9-person body representing each ASR and its constituent nationality; the congress is charged with ensuring the equality of nationalities as well as building solidarity and common identity among all Survaekom. The Congress of Nationalities and the Federal Party Congress work together to pass legislation as well as to select the members of the fourth body, the Federal Cabinet. This last body consists of the People’s Premier, elected for life by popular vote from a list of Party candidates selected by the two legislative Congresses, as well as the head of each great Federal Ministry: Army, Navy, Industry, Education, Health, and Foreign Relations.
The Survaek Socialist Federation and its member-republics are secular, democratic, and socialist. People of all creeds and origins are welcome within its borders.
[CLASSIFIED: The Federal Cabinet is aware of the presence of a large and growing unregistered population of non-Survaekom migrants. It is also aware of the population of internal migrants in the SSF, whose registration in former home settlements complicates their participation in the unions of their industries.
Contrary to the claims of the extremist Syndicalist Front and Communist Party, the government is actively working on resolving these irregularities. More importantly, at present these citizens do not in any way constitute an “under-class” exploited by a “labor aristocracy,” nor do any belong to fictional “unrecognized nations” in the federation. They are full equals with other citizens under law, and their very movement implies that their conditions are improving. Any persistent disparities, academic consensus has shown, are a matter of reactionary practices many bring with them -such as gender oppression and anti-socialist theology- slowing their integration into their host republics.]
Furthermore, the United Survaekom Socialist Party is a founding member of the Socialist International (abbreviated SocIntern), which now includes the parties of all states on Integra. These other co-equal members are the United Skshyk Communes, the Akriton Republic, the Weywryn Republic, the Coxland Socialist Federation, the Barju Republic, the Togna Socialist Federation, the Ojiran People’s Republic, and the Sriva Confederacy.
[CLASSIFIED: It is the policy of the Survaek Socialist Federation to guard against both Reaction and Extremism on Integra by ensuring hegemony, both within the framework of the SocIntern and through bilateral relations.
The SSF currently holds 9 votes in SocIntern, one for each constituent ASR, while all other states hold between one and three (Togna and Ojiran hold three each, Coxland and Sriva two). Skshyk, Akriton, Weywryn, Barju, and Ojiran are considered particularly cooperative allies in the SocIntern, ensuring a pro-Survaek majority in all matters. However, it is rare for disagreements to arise among the world’s socialist states at present; the majority serves more to ensure stability and proper response should Extremist or Reactionary elements come to power in republics with irredentist tendencies.
Likewise, the SSF has concluded Military Assistance Treaties with all of the world’s republics, extending the reach of the Survaek Federation Military to bases all across the globe. All states except the Skshyk Dominion host at least one SFM base; the United Communes are an exception only because of their military’s especially close cooperation with the SFM, dating back to the Revolution Wars.]
Culture:
There may be nine nationalities in the SSF, but they move together, ever-forward as one! Of course, they all share a common history as lands that flourished under Survaekom Civilization, with a common trade language and a set of values deriving from the Aedakom religion. While the excesses of the Old Church have been done away with and the great institutions of politico-economic life are secularized, all Survaekom -religious or not- understand the universal Aedakom values of Duty, Mastery, and Dignity. Duty to serve one’s community, Mastery of one’s trade and position, and Dignity for all fellow worker-citizens.
Since the Revolution, which restored these values to the halls of power, one could say two new values have been added as well: Solidarity and Progress. Solidarity is the active interest Survaekom feel for the lives and goings-on of workers around the globe and even beyond; since the Revolution has brought literacy to almost the entire population, it is rare to meet a Survaekom who does not follow the People’s News Press, as well as the press of their local settlement and ASR, informing themselves on matters from everywhere a journalist can reach in car, train, boat, plane, or spaceship! And when the news calls for volunteer work, military enlistment, or labor voucher donations to assist comrades even on the other side of the world, the Survaekom delivers! As for Progress: We see it all around us! In the days of Reactionary Capitalism, they called those who dared to dream of grand projects of discovery, engineering, and social change Utopian Futurists. Now, they are Realists of the Present!
The lives of most Survaekom are led either in Great Cities, Factory Towns, or Collective Farms. Factory towns, originally sites of grinding poverty and oppression when they rose under the Reactionary Capitalism of Emperor Shayaer, have been transformed into sites of free and prosperous living! Whether mine or mill or advanced assembly site, every factory runs under the standards of safety, fair wages, and reasonable hours set by the workers themselves through their unions and the greater Workers’ State. The Party and the TUCs ensure that workers can meet their collective needs with state-of-the art schools, medical facilities, communal kitchens, railway stops, communications towers, and housing integrated with the factory site. Collectives are similar, but their development is a newer transformation, replacing the wretched tenant farms and peasant villages of the past with efficient production and modern living. In the Great Cities, however, Survaekom life shines brightest as all manner of jobs come together to allow projects unthinkable elsewhere: monumental architecture, immense transportation hubs, mega-factory districts, airports, grand theaters, People’s Universities, and much more! Of course, other settlements exist, generally under direct Federal purview: Military bases, research laboratories, and of course the great Space Elevators!
[CLASSIFIED: There do exist currents of resistance to the great Survaekom Socialist order. They can generally be grouped into two categories: Extremists and Reactionaries. Each poses a different danger and requires a different response.
Extremists are socialists, but with unprincipled methods and goals that, if implemented, would threaten the gains of the Revolution. The two chief examples in current society are the so-called Communist Party and Syndicalist Front. The Syndicalist Front is the less dangerous of the two, generally accepting of our current society, but advocating for policies that could undo the Party and open the road to internal Counter-Revolution through excessive democratization: Concentrating power in the TUCs, allowing multiple parties to run in union elections, extending national union membership to all workers regardless of settlement registration, and unionizing the military. The more dangerous adversary, however, is the Communist Party. These extremists seek to restore the self-destructive policies of their predecessors, claiming that our “authoritarian” model must be replaced with an ill-defined system of “worker councils” fully-empowered to enact policy at every level. Naturally, the result of such a scheme would be utter chaos. The appropriate response to Extremists is to bar them from state functions and keep a close eye on their organizations, but otherwise combat them peacefully through media campaigns and selectively adopting their occasional, more reasonable demands. Repressive violence should only be considered when the Extremists use violence first.
Reactionaries are another matter. They reject the very fundamental principles of the Revolution, advocating ideas of race superiority, gender oppression, capitalism, and jingoism. As individuals or families, their influence is pernicious but cannot be effectively combated except through persistent education; their numbers decrease every year as bright children reject the backwards ideas of their reactionary elders, or as the latter realize the errors of their ways. However, when reactionaries organize on a larger scale, they must be opposed at every turn and by every means necessary. An illustrative example is Raegar-Aedak, a reactionary form of Aedak whose essential theology advocates the restoration of the Khaitis Dynasty and despotic national-capitalism. It retains a small but devoted following among former clergy and old zealots. Naturally, any influence they gain would be a direct threat to the Revolution, and therefore they must be allowed no platform or means to organize. The same is true of all Reactionaries. Employ minimum necessary force, but force nonetheless: Deportation or imprisonment are preferable to execution, but the latter may be necessary if particular reactionaries present an especially grave threat.]
[TOP SECRET: The unregistered/migrant worker issue is contributing to a rise of Syndicalist and Communist influence, as evidenced by a small but growing campaign of strikes in the most affected regions. Until recently only a Communist slogan, now even some Syndicalists speak of the SSF as a “degenerated workers’ state” under “rule of the labor aristocracy.” If the trend continues, informants should take on the role of agent-provocateurs: violence by Communists and Syndicalists will provide legitimacy to the use of force necessary to restore regular economic functioning.
Unregistered rural-urban migration has become essential to meeting production goals and maintaining an adequate industrial labor pool. Any attempt to fully rectify the situation would de-stabilize the economy with either an unacceptable rural labor surplus globally, or an unacceptable hindrance to urban industrial efficiency nationally. Needless to say, such a competitive disadvantage against other spacefaring polities would present a security threat as well.]
