Bay 7 of Smelter 253 of the Vanguard Mining Consortium was working as expected, with the rhythmic cacophony that was thousands of machines and hundreds of workers providing a constant background noise. There had been a massive order put in from upper management that had put bays 6 through 39 into a triple production schedule. If Foreman Regdo Steelbiter had done his math even close to right the overtime was going to be outrageous. But that was what happened when management got a wild hair across it's ass. All the refined stock would be shipped to Jotun Heavy Industries for an equally massive project he was sure. He'd heard from his cousin in PR that Harskall E&C along with a number of smaller Guilds-corps had taken on major contracts from the Combine to create some major infrastructure overhauls.

"Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the CWS Forgebrother. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out.."
"Ensign!"
Ensign Wesely Rockcrusher turned sheepishly to his commanding officer. "Yes Captain?"
"Stow the Space Sojourn quotes, we're on a real mission not some holo-drama. That crew always seems to get itself into peril, I do not want peril. For our first exploratory cruise I would prefer nothing more exciting than shiny new minerals for the Guild corps to squabble over, maybe a habitable world. Are we clear?"
"Yes sir."
--Three Months later--
The Forgebrother had just come out of FTL drive in the new system. Survey drone would be dispatched and in about a week they'd be recovered and data processing could begin. Ensign Rockcrusher was going over some of the data the sensors were giving him. "Captain, we've got a senor echo coming from the third planet."
"Alright, possible causes?" The Captain looked around at the senior bridge crew.
The engnieering officer spoke up first over the coms. "Could be a high concentration of some type of new mineral."
"The atmosphere of the planet could produce such an effect depending on the composition." Said the navigation officer.
The ensign however was ticking off possibilities on his fingers and muttering to him self. "It could be like episode 23 when they met the X'col empire, or episode 137 when they slipped into that alternate reality, or TNG 42 when.." The ensigns muttering had gotten louder with his excitement because soon the captain's voice ripped through the bridge.
"Shut up Wesely."

A Find of Fortune and Failure
The Dronavi's first expedition to a distant star was a disappointment. The CWS Forgebrother did not find any worthwhile resources in their expedition; only barren worlds and distant stars, beautiful to behold but economically impotent. But while they failed to find a noteworthy system, they did find something noteworthy: the hulk of a Luyin Arc Ship, damaged by weapons fire and out of power, floating empty in the void. It might have been mistaken for a random meteorite, were it not for the spectrographic qualities of its alloyed armor. Inspection of the vessel confirmed the obvious: The ship had been damaged before jumping and its life support systems failed shortly thereafter. Most of the crew died of suffocation or hypothermia despite escaping whatever foe had bombarded the ship with relativistic projectiles; an ignoble end to a thousand light-year journey.
The question, then, was what to do with the hulk. While damaged and out of power, the all-important warp engine and fusion reactors were intact. The Forgebrother could easily transfer some fuel to the hulk and jump it back to Hroth for salvage. The hulk itself was worth a small fortune if torn apart, and retrofitted it could serve as a megafreighter. With appropriate modifications it could even provide the core of a second Cruiser.
There were also those who saw a more spiritual side to the find. The Luyin, they argued, deserved proper respect. These brave souls had traveled across the stars in search of a better home, and their bravery should be respected. They advocated that the hulk be towed into orbit around High Hroth and dedicated as a memorial to all who had lost their lives in space.
The Luyin Hulk The remains of the Luyin Hulk are yours to do as you wish. This bounty could be quite useful.
Salvage the Hulk Strip it down and sell it to the Guilds as raw materials. The money will help fund further exploration. Gain 25 Credits
Retrofit it as a Megafreighter With some modifications the hulk will add to our growing fleet of megafreighters. Gain 1 Megafreighter
Retrofit it as a Cruiser Using the hulk as a starting point will save us the two largest expenses of building a cruiser: Constructing the warp core and fusion engines. Get a 30 Credit Discount on building your next cruiser.

The Luyin Hulk
Normally the profit driven nature of the Combine would have ensured the derelict ark ship being used in a plot for major gain. However there was a market to be found in the luyin refugees that had traded their people's knowledge for considerable wealth. Thus the board of trustees opted for a more PR driven option. The hulk would become a memorial to the lost complete with tours and a gift shop. A few luyin experts would be brought on to the project to ensure authenticity and the proper handling of the dead. Since the memorial was within easy access of the capital by short shuttle ride there was significant traffic in the first quarter and the living history factor would keep it a school field trips staple for decades.
